The Bruce Peninsula is a finger of land that juts
into the eastern side of Lake Huron. Its claims to fame include the Bruce
Peninsula National Park, the Fathom Five National Marine Park, many lighthouses,
and a wide variety of very rare orchids.
The Bruce Peninsula National Park is where the oldest and longest hiking trail
in Ontario begins. The Bruce Trail extends over 400 miles, all the way to
Niagara Falls. The park is home to many of the 44 orchid species that live
on the peninsula.
The Fathom Five National Marine Park is the scuba diving capital of Canada.
The park encompases 113 square kilometers and 20 islands. Dive excursions leave from Tobermory to a number of great diving locations
around Lake Huron. Fathom Five encompasses 21 of the more than 500 shipwrecks
located in Lake
Huron.
There is a large selection of rental cottages available throughout the Bruce
Peninsula. Many are right on the waterfront and offer excellent views. A good
place to begin your search for a cottage is Bruce Rentals.
I hope you enjoy my photos of the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada.
The various pages I have on the Bruce Peninsula include:
|
This photo was taken along the Bruce Trail, located along the
western shore of the Bruce Peninsula. The trail looks out over the Georgian
Bay on the Canadian side of Lake Huron.
|
The scenic shoreline here is cliff-lined
and rocky.
|
The Bruce Trail runs from Tobermory, at the tip of the
Bruce Peninsula, all the way to Niagara Falls along what is known as the
Niagara Escarpment. This photo was taken near The Grotto.
|
The Niagara Escarpment is a ridge of rock that is
several hundreds of meters high in some places. Many of the rocks and cliffs
along the Bruce Trail are covered with different varieties of colorful
lichen.
|
This is a photo of Devil's Monument along the Bruce
Trail. The landmark is a tall rock formation located near Cape Chin on the
Bruce Trail.
